8/2/08 - Mount Ranier National Park, Washington

Today it was partly sunny and we drove the whole park, including back to Paradise and then to Ohanapecosh and Sunshine Point. The Sunshine section also has a hotel. We passed a waterfall named Martha Falls. The drive took us past more falls and a box canyon. When we got to Sunshine we took a hike called Silver Forest Trail that had lots of beautiful wildflowers. There we had our best views of magnificent Mt. Ranier. Then we headed back to camp and stopped at a trail called Grove of the Patriarchs. This had old growth Douglas Firs and Cedar trees as old as 1000 years. We passed a stream that had massively flooded a couple of years ago causing huge mud and rock flows which knocked down large trees.
